Customs

CUSTOMS:

When you arrive in Australia you will need to clear Australian Customs.

Australian Customs regulations are very strict and it is essential you know what you CAN and CAN NOT bring into Australia.

Australia has strict border controls to prevent the possible introduction of exotic pests and diseases. As a result, travelers are screened and, in many instances, luggage is inspected or x-rayed by Customs or Quarantine officers.

Customs and Quarantine officers may question travelers at any time, selecting people and baggage for detailed examination for a number of reasons. Detector dogs might also be used to search for illegal drugs, and other prohibited exports and imports including food, plant or animal material.

Here’s a quick checklist for custom clearance.
· you should have your passport and completed Incoming Passenger Card ready;
· declare all food (tinned or packaged), plant and animal material;
· pack all goods you wish to declare in an easily accessible bag to assist with Customs inspection; and
· be honest with Customs.
